Frequently Asked Questions

Skills Insights compares your CV against a specific job description and tells you exactly how well your profile fits the role. The tool generates a job match score, a list of the skills the role requires that already appear in your CV, and a list of the skills that are missing. Each skill comes with a short comment explaining why it was found or why it is missing, plus guidance on how to develop it or include it in your CV when possible. Skills Insights is part of the broader JobWinner toolkit, so the analysis flows directly into the next steps of your application.

You need two things: your CV and the job description for the role you are interested in. Upload the CV, which you can build with the Resume Builder if you do not have one, and paste the job description. Skills Insights runs the analysis on both inputs and extracts the skills required by the offer to match them against the experience and skills already in your profile. You do not need to manually list your skills beforehand.

Skills Insights returns a job match score and two skills lists: the skills required by the offer that were found in your CV, and the skills required by the offer that are missing. Each list is split into hard skills and soft skills so you can see both technical fit and competency fit at a glance. Every skill comes with a comment explaining why it was found or why it is missing, and a suggestion on how to develop the skill or how to include it in your CV when that is possible. You finish the analysis with a clear picture of what makes you a strong candidate and where you have room to grow.

The job match score is a percentage that summarises how well your CV matches the requirements of a specific role. The score combines the overlap between the skills required in the job description and the skills found in your CV, broken down across both hard and soft skills. Re-run Skills Insights after editing your CV to see how the score changes.

A score above 65% is reasonably good and means you are a credible applicant for the role. A score above 80% is very good and means your CV is strongly aligned with what the offer asks for. Below 65% there is meaningful room to improve, and the gap list tells you which skills to highlight, develop, or add. Pair Skills Insights with the ATS Resume Checker when you want a complementary technical view of how your CV performs against applicant tracking systems.

Skills Insights detects both hard skills and soft skills. Hard skills include tools, frameworks, certifications, languages, and any technical competency named in the job description. Soft skills include leadership, communication, stakeholder management, problem solving, and any behavioural competency the role requires. The split between hard and soft skills helps you see where you are strong on technical fit and where the role demands more on the human side.

Yes, every skill required by the offer that is missing from your CV appears in a dedicated gap list with a clear explanation. The comment for each missing skill tells you why it was not found in your CV and what you can do about it: develop the skill through specific learning, or include it in your CV if you already have relevant experience that was not surfaced. This turns the analysis into a concrete action plan, not just a diagnosis.

Skills Insights and Resume Tailoring share the same underlying analysis, so the skills required by the offer flow straight into your tailored CV. When you tailor a resume, JobWinner emphasises the skills the role asks for that are already present in your original CV. The tool never invents experience that is not in your CV, which keeps the tailored version honest and recruiter-safe. Most users move from Skills Insights to Resume Tailoring in the same session.

The skills surfaced by Skills Insights also feed the Cover Letter Generator and Interview Preparation. Your cover letter highlights the skills that make you a strong fit for the role, and your interview prep generates likely questions tied to the competencies the offer asks for. This is what turns Skills Insights from a diagnostic into the engine that powers the rest of your application.

Yes, the match score and the gap list give you a fast signal on whether to apply. A score above 80% with few gaps means apply now and tailor your CV. A score between 65% and 80% means apply but invest more in tailoring and in framing your transferable skills. For roles you want to pursue, save them to the Job Tracker and use Skills Insights on each before applying.

Yes, Skills Insights has a free tier you can use without paying. Paid plans unlock the full JobWinner toolkit and the deeper integration with Resume Tailoring, the Cover Letter Generator, and Interview Preparation. You can run a first match score on any job description without paying and decide whether to upgrade based on the value you see.

Yes, Skills Insights works across roles and industries because the AI adapts to whatever skills appear in the job description you paste. It works equally well for tech, finance, marketing, sales, operations, healthcare, education, trades, and creative roles. The same analysis applies whether you are an entry-level applicant or an executive: the tool extracts what the offer asks for and compares it to your CV.
